About Heart of Wales Golf Breaks

Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and England centre forward, Les Ferdinand, recently played the three Heart of Wales courses as part of a promotion by Visit Wales. Les played Llandrindod Wells golf club in brilliant autumn sunshine and a crowd of club members cheered Les off the first tee as he played his first shot in mid Wales. Les was captivated by the Harry Vardon designed course and appreciated the stunning views that its elevated position affords.  A second day of Autumn sunshine greeted Les and his party at Builth Wells Golf Club.  Les, accompanied on his round by Club President, Bob Hardwick, said he enjoyed the course but that the back nine holes were particularly good and challenging.

The third day saw Les at Cradoc Golf Club but unfortunately the glorious autumn sunshine was replaced by low cloud so Les never saw the spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons, but when standing on the 17th tee, Les was in the middle of his backswing when a hawk flew low overhead, but it wasn't a buzzard or even a beautiful red kite, it was a full blown RAF type hawk, doing 500mph.  The other member's of Les's party were seen shortly after on their knees, looking up, obviously thanking a higher authority for chance to win at least one hole.  Speaking to Cradoc pro, Richie Davies, after his round Les said how much he had enjoyed the three courses and he hoped to return one day to play them again.

SUMMER 2010 - GET AWAY FROM IT ALL - BUT NOT TOO FAR

Golfing breaks don't come any sweeter, cheaper ......or shorter. Just over an hour's drive from Birmingham and Bristol -- and three hours from London -- will take you where it costs as little as £136 for two night's bed and breakfast and three rounds of peaceful, unhurried golf on three quality courses.
The Heart of Wales cluster of award winning golf courses occupies an area of outstanding and unspoiled natural beauty that encompasses the Brecon Beacons National Park and the upper reaches of the Wye valley.  Twenty miles of the most sumptuous scenery covers the courses at Cradoc, Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells but, being just inside the Welsh border, it certainly isn't remote. Indeed, it is hard to think of anywhere so far from the madding crowd but so accessible from the main population centres. You are transported back in time, too. White-painted farmhouses dot the landscape and small market towns afford visitors a genuine warmth and welcome that is reminiscent of years gone by.  Link this with a choice of accommodation ranging from the quaint to the historic and three golf courses that complement each other so perfectly and you can create a relaxing golf break in a stunning location.

CRADOC golf club enjoys spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains and is only two miles outside the historic market town of 7th green.jpgBrecon. At 6,200 yards long, it stages the annual Molson Coors Welsh Tournament of Champions and won the Welsh Golf Club of the Year award in 2005. The club has also hosted the Welsh Ladies Team Championship and the Welsh Boys' Championship this year.
BUILTH WELLS golf club is on the outskirts of the famous farming town that bears its name. At 5,376 yards it is not a long course but what it lacks in distance it makes up in devilment. Popular with visitors, it has hosted the Welsh Young Professionals Championship, and also boasts a listed clubhouse; a converted 15th century Welsh long house.
LLANDRINDOD WELLS golf club was designed by the legendary Harry Vardon in 1905 when the town was a very popular Victorian spa resort. Perched on a plateau of moor and heath land high above the town it won the Welsh Golf Club of the Year award in 2004 and has hosted the Golf Union of Wales Individual Handicap Championship since its inception in 2000.
