Unusual Birdie on the First at Llandrindod

Normally when golfers talk about "a birdie on the first" it means a very good start to their round of golf.

However on Thursday last week (7th Sept) a birdie on the first, at Llandrindod Wells Golf Club, meant a totally different thing, as it referred to a Sikorsky S-76 helicopter that had landed on the first fairway.

The helicopter was transporting Lord Bamford, of JCB fame, to Llandrindod to visit a business in the town that is developing a hydrogen fuel cell car.

On his arrival at Llandrindod Lord Bamford commented that he loved the location of the golf course and the spectacular views from the first hole were exceptional.

So next time you hear someone talking about "a birdie on the first" you'll be wondering "was it a good hole they were talking about".

If you want to experience the same fabulous views as Lord Bamford then join us on a Heart of Wales Golf Break by contacting our booking agent, Catherine, on 01597 828598 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
